This is not the resurrection of some previously deceased blog. Nor is it a blog specifically about resurrection. It’s just another blog floating in the wide (but not so deep) blogosphere puddle. Like a gigantic galactic disc, the puddle appears welcoming from a distance, but upon closer inspection turns out to be a whole lot more nothing than something. This blog lies awake at night and dreams of being a part of that something.
So why Anastasis you ask? Many reasons could be given. Two will suffice. First: The anastasis of Christ Jesus was arguably the most pivotal event in world history. By it, all the Word of God was demonstrated to be true and Christ himself was shown to be the Way, the Truth and the Life. Those who come to him may know that Golgotha was the climax, not the end of redemptive history. There is an open grave in Palestine, whose silent mouth witnesses to the One who did not cheat death but passed through it, leaving behind a shattered and defeated foe. Second: The coming anastasis of all those in Christ is the end to which all believers are travelling and all history is moving. Sadly, the hope of many believers stops at Heaven. They are content to dwell there in some Platonic state of disembodied bliss. Oh, the sinless joys of Heaven will be inexpressible! But the Word of God promises more. There will come a day when God will reunite our soul and body—our glorious resurrected body—in a blessed union capable of giving greater glory to him than even those souls now in Heaven. It was for this purpose that he made us both soul and body. In that day, he will cleanse this world and make it a fit home for our glorified bodies. Then we, our natures no longer corrupted by sin, will live in perfect harmony with an earth no longer groaning under the weight of that sin, and together with all the creation of God we will glorify his name!
